Lord of Life Lutheran Church - Kamloops
The LORD is your Life - Deuteronomy 30:20

Youth Ministry

We have a Youth Group for young people Grade VI and up.  We get together from time to time for bowling, sleepovers, movie nights, games nights, special worship services, and much more.  In the past we have also taken youth to Lutheran Youth Gatherings in Brandon, Manitoba and Nanaimo, British Columbia.  We have also undertaken several fund raisers for Mission Projects such the "Kids Feeding Kids" program of the Haiti Lutheran mission Society.

Children's Ministry

We have Sunday School classes every Sunday beginning at 9:30 am from the Sunday following Labour Day until Father's Day.  Children from ages 3 to 12 are welcome.  We have several craft Sundays throughout the year and a special Hot-Dog Barbeque on Father's Day along with special games for the children.

We also have a Vacation Bible School for four mornings (9:30 a.m. to noon) from August 21st to 24th.

Divine Services in Merritt

On the third Sunday of every month a Service of Holy Communion is held at 1:00 p.m. at the Anglican Church in Merritt.  Between 6 and 12 faithful Lutherans gather to hear God's Word and receive His grace in the Sacrament.  The Service is followed by a time of fellowship over coffee and snacks.  On the first Sunday of the month a Bible Study is held in the homes of some of the members.

If you would like more information and/or the name of our Merritt contact person please call or email the church.

Catechism Classes

Catechetical Instruction is provided for young people in Grades VI - VIII.  Catechumens (pronounced kat-eh-CUE-mens) participate in a two year program.  One year the emphasis will be on the teachings of the historic Christian faith utilizing the Bible and Luther's Small Catechism with Explanation.  The following year we take an overview of the Holy Scriptures with reference to the Catechism.

When a young person has completed his or her studies and has demonstrated an understanding of the Christian faith, he or she may make a public profession of their faith before the congregation and be admitted into communicant membership in the churchThis is called confirmation since they "confirm" their belief in the Triune God and in the salvation which comes only through faith in the Saviour, Jesus the Christ.

Bible Study

Confessional Lutherans place a very strong emphasis on the study of Holy Scripture.  Therefore it is not surprising that Lord of Life offers a number of Bible Study opportunities both for members and the community.  In addition to the Sunday morning Study, Pastor Heselton also leads the Good Shepherd Quilters in their studies on Tuesday mornings.  Two home Bible Studies are held each week, one in Rayleigh and the other on the North Shore.  The Lutheran Women's Missionary League meet monthly from September to June and always include a study of God's Word with their meetings.  We also have special workshops, seminars, and other studies throughout the year as opportunities arise.  Recently (June 2006) we had Dr. Emil Silvestru of Creation Ministries International speak to our church.

Future opportunities for Bible Study may include: Jesus, Fact or Fiction; Christianity 101-The Essential of the Christian FaithGrace to Give; Renewing the Family Spirit; and more.

Baptism

Lutherans place great importance upon the Sacrament of Holy Baptism.  Rightly so for the Holy Scripture declares: "He who believes and is baptized shall be saved" (Mark 16:16); "Baptism now saves you . . ." (1 Peter ); "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God." (John 3:5); "But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Saviour appeared, He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to His own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Saviour, so that being justified by His grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. The saying is trustworthy," (Titus 3: 4-8).

Jesus said, "Go, make disciples of all peoples, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to keep all I have commanded you." (Matthew 28:1-19).  Baptism and Teaching go together.  We baptize babies and small children and then teach them.  Adults and adolescents are taught first and then baptized.  If you have a baby or young child and would like them to receive the promises God offers in and through Baptism or if you are an adult who has never been baptized into jesus Christ and would like to know more about this, please give us a call!

Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML)

The Lutheran Women's Missionary League is a auxiliary organization of Lutheran Church--Canada consisting of mission minded ladies who serve their congregations and assist with mission endeavors at home and abroad.  The Lord of Life society meets on the third Thursday of every month at 9:30 a.m. from September through June.

Good Shepherd Quilters

Every Tuesday morning, after Bible Study, some of our very talented ladies get together over their quilting rack and exchange stories while they stitch away.  Over the years they have put together countless quilts.  They had their beginning at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd (hence the name) in North Kamloops years ago.  When the two congregations merged in 1996 they packed up their material, racks, and other supplies and carried on at Lord of Life!

Every year the Good Shepherd Quilters, along with our LWML Society, make around 25 tie quilts to be given away to worthy causes and organizations.  Recipients of these have been: Pastoral students at Concordia Lutheran Seminary-Edmonton; the Kamloops Women's Shelter, the New Life Mission; the Kamloops Hospice Society, and others.  Well done good and faithful servants!  In addition the ladies make a number of quilts which are available for purchase.  All funds thus raised go toward the church proproperty mortgage.    If you might be interested in meeting or joining our quilters, give a call or just drop in almost any Tuesday morning.
