The Lord of Life Logo

“For the Lord is your life” Deuteronomy 30:20

The symbol of Lord of Life Lutheran Church consists of three parts: the Chi-Rho; the Crown; and the Vine.

The Chi-Rho consists of two Greek letters superimposed on one another. The two letters, X (Chi, pronounced “k-eye”) and P (Rho, pronounced “row”) are the first two letters in the word “Christ.” This reminds us that Jesus Christ is indeed our “Lord of Life.” Furthermore the X (Chi) is rotated 45 ° to form a cross, indicating that in the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ—the basis of our forgiveness and salvation—we have this life, both now and in eternity.

U “Simon Peter replied, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Matthew 16:16 (ESV)

U “Simon Peter answered Him, "Lord to whom shall we go?  You have the words of eternal life, and we have believed, and have come to know, You are the Holy One of God." John 6:68-69 (ESV)

U  “These [words] are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name. John 20:31 (ESV)

U    “God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8 (ESV)

U   “We preach Christ crucified” 1 Corinthians 1:23 (ESV)

The Crown symbolizes that Jesus Christ is our King and Lord. We are also reminded that we will receive crowns and rule with Christ in heaven when He returns in all power and glory at the end of time.

U “Now Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, ‘Are you the King of the Jews?’ Jesus said, ‘You have said so.’" Matthew 27:11 (ESV)

U   “There was also an inscription over Him, ‘This is the King of the Jews.’" Luke 23:38 (ESV)

U “Our Lord Jesus Christ, . . . who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords.” 1 Timothy 6:14b-15 (ESV)

“And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.” 1 Peter 5:4 (ESV)

The living vine represents Christ into whom we are connected and receive our sustenance and life and subsequently bear fruit for His kingdom. The vine might also suggest to us the blessed Sacrament where, in the fruit of the vine, we receive Christ’s true blood given and shed for the forgiveness of sins.

U   "I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in Me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing." John 15:5 (ESV)

U   And He took a cup, and when He had given thanks He gave it to them, saying, "Drink of it, all of you, for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. Matthew 26:27-28 (ESV)
